The biggest reason why I love a single frame is that it truly can tell a story in itself, and can also provoke imagination at the same time, so you can end up with an even better story! No need for rolling film, just one shot that can say so much.
Here is one.
A picture of a white balloon. This is on the cover of Chris and Emma’s wedding album, which I also have as a studio album.
This was my first Byron Bay Wedding that I photographed and still one of my favorites to this day.
The wedding aisle down to the mulberry tree where Chris and Emma said “I do!” was made of white balloons pinned to the ground with white golf tee’s, and just as Chris kissed Emma, the cute little flower girl tripped over one and the balloon flew off up into the air.
This may not be a story that anyone else might know, but to Chris and Emma it was a picture that said a thousand words.
It’s also a moment I’ll never forget…and that’s why I use a camera.
Destination Wedding – Jorge and Margaret – full Wedding + adventure in Cartagena, Colombia
My other photography love next to weddings is documentary style travel photography. I started taking photos professionally so I could hopefully support this dream I had of being a travel Photographer.
Well last year my lovely Jane surprised me with a return ticket to Colombia, South America, for my 40th birthday, so I could see some beautiful places on the other side of the world and also photograph our friend Margaret’s Wedding.
Last year we ran a little support campaign (100 kids with a future) with Margaret and the volunteer organization Fundacion Afrocaribe, and this is where Margaret met the big friendly giant Jorge. A year or so later he proposed, and she said “yes!” and here we are!
During my 2 weeks in Colombia, I saw a lot, ate a lot, drank a lot of tequila and took a lot of photos, and I will blog some travel photos very soon, but first I wanted to share the wonderful intimate wedding of Jorge and Margaret with you, and a few photos from some of the things we did in the weeks leading up the wedding. This included a trip up into the Sierra Nevada mountains to stay in an eco-lodge in the beautiful Minca, where we swam in a pristine mountain river, a day-trip bus ride out to see Jorge’s family to enjoy some local food and experience some of Jorge’s African Heritage including a swim in the local watering hole with all the local kids on a 40deg day. I also couldn’t forget going to see the boys at the orphanage Margaret works for, where we had a birthday celebration for one of the boy’s, and I gave them my camera to play with for a few hours!
Thanks so much to Jorge and Margaret for having me for the few weeks I was there. Jorge showed me around a lot of the historic town of Cartagena where we stayed, which was just amazing, and this is where their wonderful wedding took place.
Cartagena certainly turned on the charm for us that day. Jorge and Margaret were married under an archway that is over 400 years old, and everyone partied all night long. So much colour and life!
What a beautiful town, beautiful people, something I will never forget.
Enjoy the pics.
Big thanks to Padré for letting us up into the historic bell tower for the sunset, and a walk on the roof!

Sydney Wedding – Gabriel and Renée – full wedding at “Bar at the end of the Wharf”
I met Gabe and Renée at the wedding of Adam and Bridget, a Berrima wedding I photographed a while ago. Gabe was a keen photographer with camera in hand and very interested in what I was holding, very friendly, a little animated I would say, we had a good chat. I showed him a few tips with his camera. Some time later I received a call from Gabe, only a few months out from their wedding, saying that since I showed him those few things his photos had been amazing! He mentioned they were getting married soon and had been going through a lot of my work, loved my creativity and would love me to photograph their wedding! Luckily the date was free, so they cancelled their other photographer,*eek* and here we are…
What an insanely awesome day!
Such a beautiful, genuine and fun-loving couple.
Perfect Sydney weather, great venues and a fab bunch of people, especially Gabe and Renee….you sure know how to have a good time!
Tessa from Breathing Light Photography, my partner in crime on the day, took a few of these photos too, thanks Tess you rock!
…and The Bar at the End of the Wharf – what more can I say, its got it all. It would have to be my favourite reception venue in Sydney…so SOOO cool!
I’m sure the images portray all this though, so without further adieu, here is a song that Renee chose for their love story, and my story of their wedding day.
